Episode 36 - The Jesse Ventura Story

On this episode of HDTGB pro wrestler & former Minnesota resident, Sojo Bolt joins Zane & Jake to discuss a NBC TV movie of the week, The Jesse Ventura Story. This movie was made & aired less than 8 months after Ventura won the election to become the governor of Minnesota and it shows. Jake did more research for this podcast than the writers of this movie did for the script. But the most disturbing part of the whole film is they got an actor with the least amount of accent to play a guy with the most amount of accent.

After the discussion of the movie ends the trio tries to answer the real question,” Was Jesse Ventura a good Governor”? Sojo actually lived in Minnesota during Ventura’s tenure and even voted for him. But when she looks back she recalls a incident when Ventura’s government cuts affected her personally. Jake on the other hand comes to this podcast with a manifesto level of documents & print outs that would make Ventura blush.

Don’t buy it, then listen to this weeks episode of How Did This Get Booked ?!?

Episode 35 - WCW New Blood Rising

On this episode of HDTGB comedian & improvisor, Kevin Delgado sits down with Zane & Jake to discuss WCW’s replacement for Road Wild, New Blood Rising.  Kevin’s only prior knowledge of pro wrestling was the death of Eddie Guerrero & Chris Benoit. So, making him watch WCW’s New Blood Rising completes the pro wrestling tragedy hat trick. In typical WCW 2000 fashion the PPV is named after a faction that has already dissolved before the PPV. This PPV comes off the heels of the infamous and in Jake’s opinion very creative Bash at the Beach PPV shoot promo by Vince Russo. So, this is at the height of Russo’s hubris and it signals the upcoming fall of WCW. Kevin constantly questions the rules or lack there of in pro wrestling and Jake & Zane have no answers. Mostly because the Canadian Rule Book wasn’t handy.   Luckily though this show is book ended by some very solid matches because who doesn’t love Tank Abbott.

Episode 34 - GLOW on Netflix

Ever since it was released every one of Jake & Zane’s non wrestling friends have been asking, “What do you think about the new Netflix original series, GLOW”? Instead of answering everyone individually these two decided to use their moderately sized platform to answer that question all at once in detail. Put quite simply this is the best thing these two will ever talk about on this podcast. BUT instead of gushing over this fantastic program for over an hour, which they could have done very easily. Jake found one of the only negative reviews for Netflix series and picked it a part piece by piece. Some what out of spite because the review spoiled one of the major plot twist in the first episode WITHOUT GIVE A SPOILER ALERT.  Speaking of, SPOILER ALERT this episode contains SPOILERS so do not listen to this episode without watching GLOW on Netflix which we highly recommend that you do because it’s awesome.

Episode 33 - IWA Japan King of the Death Match 1995

Every country can only have 1 king but this podcast can have as many fools as it wants. On this episode of HDTGB comedian, Andy Vanderveer sits down with Zane & Jake to discuss the tournament that started it, King of the Death Match 1995. Andy grew up a non fan of pro wrestling in the Charlotte, NC area so his exposure to pro wrestling was limited to Lex Lugar showing up at his public pool one day. Needless to say King of the Death Match melted his mind. You know what they say, once you see Terry Funk get hit with a chainsaw you don’t go back. As a reminder no barbed wire crucifix were harmed in the filming of the tournament.

Episode 32 - PWS Legends Show (3/31/12)

On this episode of HDTGB comedian, Freddy G sits down with Zane & Jake to discuss a “legendary” Legends Show. You know it’s a bad sign when the “Man Scout” Jake Manning has one of the better matches on a show and has one of the better bodies on the card.  This show was a rushed job, throw away, giveaway, barely thought out, forgettable show. Unlike the other show that Vince Jr. was running across town that next day. In fact the hotel where this show took place was far more over than this show would ever be. This wrestling show is only notable because it is the first ever wrestling show that Freddy G has ever seen.

Episode 31 - WrestleManiac

Zane & Jake roll into this podcast much like Alfonse and his porn cast of characters did in that deserted Mexican town. There is no special guest comedian this week because like the stranger in the beginning of the movie says, “Too much pussy is bad for your heart”.  Hopefully some of the scares in this movie aren’t bad for your heart but rested assure that this podcast is good for your belly… laughs. Not only do we ask How Did This Get Booked but we also figure out How to Book the Remake.

Episode 30 - The WWF Wrestling Classic

On this episode of HDTGB comedian, Drew Covert sits down with Zane & Jake to discuss a Wrestling….. Classic??? The big head-scratcher about this show is, If you are going to give away a car in 1985 why aren’t you giving away a DeLorean? One thing that is not a mystery is why the WWF never did another 16 man tournament in one night on PPV. Because this show would be exhibit A. The Wrestling Classic is truly a showcase for Macho Man Randy Savage’s strength in character and Lord Alfred Hayes lack in character. Hurry up and download this podcast before JYD counts your shoulders down for the 1-2-3.

EPISODE 29 - WCW GREAT AMERICAN BASH 1991

On this episode of HDTGB comedian, Raj Kumar sits down with Zane & Jake to discuss an american institution, WCW’s Great American Bash. When people talk about the disfunction of WCW this is exhibit A and the smoking gun. Raj is completely unaware of the woes of WCW because he hasn’t seen anything wrestling related for over 20 years. In fact, the last thing Raj saw that was wrestling related was a Bollywood movie about pro wrestling. So, that means Raj is more qualified to run WCW than Jim Herd.

EPISODE 28 - NEW JACK : HARDCORE

On this episode of HDTGB comedian Devin Harris sits down with Zane & Jake to discuss a documentary (and we use the word, documentary very loosely) on New Jack.  One thing that all three men would like to make very clear is that they all love New Jack, but for different reasons. Zane & Jake love New Jack because they are 20% in awe of him & the other 80% is based on fear of him. Were as Devin loves New Jack because he reminds him of a guy he knew in college who was simply know as, Zone.

Episode 27 - Secrets of Pro Wrestling & EXPOSED: Pro Wrestlings Greatest Secrets

On this episode of HDTGB comedian Mark Viola sits down with Zane & Jake to discuss not 1 but 2 videos that sort of killed the business of pro wrestling.  Admittedly, Mark was a huge fan of pro wrestling as a kid but then 2004 happened. Damn you Entourage & CSI: New York!  Although, Mark was a fan he never had the secrets exposed to him nor did he pay a shifty looking guy with a mustache to find out. Luckily, Salem the cat from Sabrina The Teenage Witch was available to help pull back the curtain to all of these those juicy secrets like, stunt grannies.

Episode 26 - WrestleMania XI

On this episode of HDTGB comedian Ryan Van sits down with Zane & Jake to discuss the lowest point in Lawrence Taylor & Bret Hart’s career, WrestleMania XI. Even though Jonathan Taylor Thomas was there the WWE still needed some Home Improvement on it’s public image. So, what better way to up their public profile than having almost 20 photographers at ringside. Hopefully you can make it all the way to the end of this podcast and dance with Salt-N-Pepa unlike Lawrence Taylor.

Episode 25 - CZW They Said It Couldn’t Be Done

On this episode of HDTGB writer & authors John G. Hartness & Gail Z Martin sits down with Zane & Jake to discuss a show that finally answers the question that this show asks (How Did This Get Booked) with the name of the show. (They Said It Couldn’t Be Done)

Gail Z. Martin sums up her entire experience watching the show with one sentence, “I didn’t know violence could be so boring”.

Episode 24 - Thunder in Paradise

On this episode of HDTGB comedian Mikee Steinberg sits down with Zane & Jake to discuss the Hulk Hogan starring vehicle, Thunder in Paradise. For the record, this movie has everything.  Pro Wrestler cameos, a speed boat, sexy extras in bikinis, bad New York accents from New York natives, unsafe gunplay, deep mental scaring of a child, misogynistic clauses to last will & testaments, refugees being welcomed in America, ass less chaps AND THE LIST GOES ON. And we cover it all on this episode of How Did This Get Booked ?!?

This podcast was recorded LIVE at the 1st ever Queen City Comedy Festival. Joining Zane & Jake on this momentous occasion are HDTGB OG’s Paige VanTassell & Alex Anderson. Episode 22 - World Wrestling Coalition - (4/28/00)

On this episode of HDTGB comedian Bryan Penn sits down with Zane & Jake to discuss World Wrestling Coalition.  A show from the post Y2K world where there will be no T&A and bad language BUT plenty of eye candy & non consensual sexual advances on a child in a church bathroom. This show asks more questions than it answers. Such as, Is The Plague, The Mauler & Black the same person and what does Wacky Wayne Woo mean he holds up 3 fingers as says read between the lines??? But we can one attempt to answer one question at a time and the hosts and guest need to stay focus and answer the question at hand, How Did This Get Booked ?!?

Episode 21 - ECW - Hardcore Heaven 1997

On this episode of HDTGB comedian, Todd Riley sits down with Zane & Jake to discuss ECW’s 2nd PPV offering, Hardcore Heaven 1997. Despite some noticeable technical issues this show isn’t that bad.  But what we can all agree upon is that the Extreme Chopper needs to take a long trip over the Atlantic Ocean with a very low gas tank.  Luckily Todd is at the perfect age were he can fully enjoy ECW for its violence, musically choices, the women and the abuse of a small man named Spike.

Episode 20 - Pennsylvania Championship Wrestling 5/16/98

On this episode of HDTGB comedian Matt Barrentine sits down with Zane & Jake to discus Night 2 of Pennsylvania Mania for Pennsylvania Championship Wrestling. This show has future & at the time current WWE superstars, soon to be ECW superstars, Indy Wrestling Darlings and Wrestlers who may or may not be from the Middle East. The wrestling may provide a lot of highs on this episode but the lows on this video do not disappoint. Congratulations Mr. Oh LaLa you have stolen our hearts #SextonHardcastleRocks

Episode 19 - Beyond The Mat

On this episode of HDTGB improvisor Glynnis O’Donoghue sits down with Zane & Jake to discuss the award winning (I think) documentary, Beyond The Mat. Glynnis opens up about her newly discovered crush on Mick Foley. While Zane & Jake confirms Glynnis’ concerns with being alone in a room with Paul Heyman. Thankfully Jake the Snake Roberts has done a complete 180 since the release of this documentary despite a chance encounter with a drunken Jake Manning. Don’t worry fans of HDTGB no one was “Dennis Stamped” on this episode because EVERYONE IS BOOKED for the this edition of How Did This Get Booked ?!?

Episode 18 - WWE Survivor Series 1993

On this episode of HDTGB comedian Carlos Valencia sits down with Zane & Jake to discuss WWE Survivor Series 1993. This podcast raises a lot questions.  Is Doug Stanhope the 1-2-3 Kid? Would Bret Hart vs. Bruce Hart been better than Bret Hart vs. Owen Hart? Whatever happened to Ludvig Borga… according to Wikipedia.com?
